How Trenderly Works

  1. Fetch — Every 5 minutes, Trenderly queries the Hacker News Algolia API, the Reddit r/popular JSON feed, and the GitHub Search API for the latest top content.
  2. Rank — Posts are sorted by their native score: points on HN, upvotes on Reddit, and new stars on GitHub. The All tab interleaves sources so every platform is represented.
  3. Display — Click any post title to open the original content. For HN and Reddit posts, click "discuss" to go directly to the comment thread.
  4. Refresh — Trenderly auto-refreshes every 5 minutes, or hit the Refresh button to pull the latest data immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Trenderly?

Trenderly is a free, real-time trending aggregator that combines the top posts from Hacker News, Reddit, and GitHub into one unified feed. Instead of visiting multiple sites separately, you can see everything trending across tech, news, and open-source software in a single view, refreshed every 5 minutes.

How often does Trenderly update?

Trenderly fetches fresh data every 5 minutes automatically. Results are cached at the Cloudflare edge for fast loading, and you can also click the Refresh button at any time to manually trigger a new fetch.

What sources does Trenderly track?

Trenderly currently tracks three sources: Hacker News (front page stories ranked by points, via the Algolia HN Search API), Reddit (top posts from r/popular today, ranked by upvotes), and GitHub (fastest-rising repositories created in the past 7 days, ranked by new stars).

How does Trenderly rank posts?

Each source uses its own native ranking signal. Hacker News posts are ranked by points. Reddit posts are ranked by upvote score from r/popular. GitHub repositories are ranked by the number of stars received since creation. In the All tab, posts from each source are interleaved equally so no single platform dominates the feed.

Is Trenderly free to use?

Yes, Trenderly is completely free with no signup, no account, and no usage limits. There are no premium tiers or paywalls. The tool is supported by Google AdSense advertising.

Does Trenderly store my data?

Trenderly does not collect or store any personal data. The only data fetched is publicly available post data from Hacker News, Reddit, and GitHub APIs. Trenderly uses Google Analytics for page analytics and Google AdSense for advertising, both of which may set cookies per the Privacy Policy.
